Currently, Zhangjiawo Town of Xiqing District in Tianjin has completed a Phalaenopsis orchid production base with 200 mu (33.33 acres). A 500 mu (83.33 acres) production demonstration base is under construction and is expected to have 45 million yuan ($6,521,739 USD) in sales by the end of this year.
The town began Phalaenopsis production in 2004 and currently has constructed 200 mu (33.33 acres) of production base, with 20,000 square meters (200,000 sq ft) of modern climate controlled greenhouse, 4,500 square meters (45,000 sq ft) sunlight greenhouse (low energy), 1,100 square meters (11,000 sq ft) of tissue culture laboratory. Last year, the town reached sale income over 20 million yuan ($2,898,551 USD), net income more than 8 million yuan ($1,159,420 USD).
This year, the town started to push the production of high-grade flowers to farmers. West Tianjin Modern Agricultural Demonstration Zone is the leaders of the towns 500 mu of flower production demonstration base are Fang Zhuangzi, Yan Zhuangzi, Xiao Dianzi and other villages, focusing on promoting "Red Dragon", "White V3", "Emperor", "White 31" and other new varieties of Phalaenopsis. The planting area for Phalaenopsis and the sales is planned to developed from the current 2 million plants to 4 million plants. Currently, the town has completed 22,000 square meters of smart greenhouse, 2,000 square meters of simple greenhouses and 20,000 square meters of sunlight (energy efficient) greenhouse. Over 2,000 square meters of asphalt surface between fields, deep wells, heat supply center, boiler, transforming room, and other related facilities are stepping in construction. It is reported that the 200 mu base will be completed before Spring Festival of 2009 and 500 thousand finished plants, 4 million large and medium size plants and 5 million small plants will be ready to enter the market, reaching sales income of 45 million yuan ($6,521,739 USD) with a net income 16 million yuan ($2,318,840 USD).
