In May this year, Yunnan Province Flower Industry Office committed to draw up a "Honghe Prefecture Flower Industry Development Plan" for Honghe Hani and Yi Nationality Autonomous Prefecture People's Government. Recently, Yunnan Province Flower Industry Office and Honghe State Biological Innovation Office organized experts of the province and carried out a fact-finding and research for the flower industry in 7 counties of HongheState. The work planning and drawing-up has been officially started.
The geographical location of HonghePrefecture is special, suitable for a variety of animals and plants in tropical and subtropical, temperate and other production. The favorable natural environment produces a wealth of biological resources with higher plants numbering more than 7,000 species. The plan is to develop and utilize the rich flower resources of HonghePrefecture and transfer these resources into industrial advantages. The HonghePrefecture government decided to carry out research, study the flower industry and form a flower industry development plan to guide the whole prefecture’s flower industry development. They will gradually establish and improve industrial chain including flower production, flower trade, flower tourism, flower logistics, flower processing, flower exhibition and ultimately develop Honghe into another flower main producing area of Yunnan following Kunming and Yuxi examples.
It is understood that flowers in HonghePrefecture is a new growth area for the rural economy under the guidance and support of the local government and relevant departments will develop fast. The growth area is expected to expand rapidly. Currently the area of green plants, flowers and foliage plants are nearly 10,000 mu (1667 acres). In addition there are over 40,000 mu (6667 acres) of flowers for medicine, such as Breviscapine, marigold and pyrethrum. The industry pattern will mainly center on foliage plants, green plants, medicinal plants, edible flowers, supplement cut flowers and cut leaves.
